tribute to Jake(y)

I know how dear Jake the axolotl was to many of you who read this blog. It is with the utmost sorrow that I must report that Jake(y) passed away today, from natural causes.

Here is some further information for those of you who are interested:
· On December 9, the Mexican axolotl in Creepy Critters passed away due to natural causes.
· She* was about 17 years old and had been in the exhibit since it began in 1990.
· She had been in good health until the last few days.
· The axolotl will not be replaced; however, the Mudpuppy (a close Canadian cousin of the Mexican axoltl) in the 4th floor artificial wetland habitat will be relocated to the axolotl’s home in Creepy Critters.
· The Mudpuppy is expected to be in its new home around December 15.
· Exhibits will post a sign in the interim.
· The axolotl will be donated to the Museum’s collections.
